I don't just teach you to move for the sake of moving. I take an educational approach to help you understand your body and why it moves the way it does.

I am a native of Taiwan, where I built a solid dance foundation before spreading my passion for movement to the U.S. I have been a mover, working as a dancer, performer, and fitness professional for the past 20 years. I have a BFA from New World School of the Arts, University of Florida, where I first met the Pilates method, with a focus on strengthening and injury-prevention. As a dancer and student of dance, I have always been fascinated with human anatomy, especially in the musculoskeletal system. To deepen my study of the human body, in 1999 I completed a 720-hour massage therapy program with a strong focus on anatomy and physiology. Through the direct physical contact experienced in dance, tactile connection with the body in massage therapy, and my continued study of anatomy and physiology, I have an understanding of movement analysis and targeting ways in which a person can benefit from their Pilates practice.

Despite my exposure to Pilates at a young age, I missed the opportunity to truly incorporate it into my dance and physical training at that time. As I continued dancing and teaching dance, I started suffering from severe chronic injuries throughout my body, until finally my spine injuries brought me to the point of being immobilized from the pain. As someone whose passion was performing big, physical movement, it was miserable to eventually become incapable of the simplest Child Pose position. However, after spine surgery and a relapse in pain, I decided to see if I could push past the distrust of my body, and gave Pilates Mat work a try again after so many years. Finding myself rebuilding trust and ability, I began formal Pilates training, where the pace of recovery accelerated and led to my being stronger and more pain-free than I had felt in over a decade. This radical change in my own body and life made me want to share the Pilates method to promote a healthy way of moving.

I received my Comprehensive Pilates Training Certification through BASI (Body Arts and Science International), qualified to teach all Pilates apparatus. I also have Prenatal Pilates Doula certification from the Livelife Pilates Academy, and trained to be a CoreAlign instructor through Balanced Body. I have worked with people with postural issues, chronic back pain, scoliosis, hip and knee replacements, prenatal and postnatal women, athletes, dancers, and people of all ages and abilities who simply want to be stronger and more in tune with their bodies. My goal is to use Pilates to help you find body awareness, rehabilitate from injuries, and work toward efficient, strong movement. In a session or class, I observe your needs, listen to your questions, and care about your feelings. I have taught at various Pilates studios in the DC Metro area, including George Mason University, Toolbox Pilates, Epiphany Pilates, and local physical therapy clinics.
